WHAT TO DO WITH EXTRA COMPOST? 

I don’t know about you guys, but I never have extra compost to go around. A couple of years ago, I do remember that we had a bit to spare. However, let me tell you there are plenty of things that you could do with that extra compost that you have on your hands. Remember you can never add too much compost to the soil. Unlike humans, plants know how much nutrients they require and would not absorb the exact amount. There are numerous ways that you could utilize your extra compost, keep reading to learn more about it.

You could utilize it like mulch, use it like an soil enhancer by digging the compost into the beds, boost the lawn and you could also sweep the compost in the holes, improving aeration, drainage, and water retention. Storing you’re compost in compost bins is also an excellent way to go about it. You will have complete control over the moisture and aeration avoiding it from getting soggy and moldy. Always remember to keep the compost moist.

How to Store extra Compost?  

All gardeners prefer to plan, always making sure that they have finished composing for the next year way before the planting season. If you fall under this category then you must make sure that your compost is stored in the right conditions. This will make sure that the nutrient and moisture are intact until it’s time for you to utilize the compost. Suppose you are composting compost tea then you must know that it can be stored for 4-6 days in a container that is lightproof and sealed. Now suppose you want to keep it for a longer time, then you must make sure to create aeration. This can be easily achieved with an aquarium pump or a bubbler stone.

The main thing that you should consider while storing compost is the location. If you plan to store it on the surface you would require sufficient space in the garden and I know that many of us do not have that. Therefore, I always recommend utilizing the compost bin in order to keep the texture of the compost intact.
