Composting your dog poop is a process that is natural and helps in reducing organic waste, reusing nutrients for the plants. But I must also point out here that the waste from our pets has parasites that do not die in household composting piles. To get rid of them you have to make sure that the temperature within the pile is constant at 165 F. This temperature must be consistent for five days. Honestly, this is extremely difficult to achieve at home.

To safely compost your dog’s poop you must;

  • Add one part of sawdust
  • Two parts of dog poop

Compose needs sufficient carbon in order to break down the rich nitrogen manure. So, if you add sawdust, it is very helpful as it is carbon and compliments a high level of nitrogen.

Put a cover on the pile by using black plastic to retain the heat. Make sure you turn the pile weekly.

Follow the above steps that we have given and in about six weeks you will have ready to use crumbly organic materials. All the best!
