If you are worried about controlling the odor in your kitchen then in this article, we discuss about storing compost in your kitchen.

Effectively composting in your kitchen requires certain things that you should consider that include.

An efficient compost bin to store compost in kitchen

Compost bins that you get in your kitchen should be purchase after considering certain details like the size, the design, user-friendly, etc. If you have been researching about compost bins then I’m sure you would have come across a variety of them all in different shapes, sizes and price tags. The compost bin should be functional, it should not just hold compost but it should be convenient. So, make sure you choose a compost bin depending on the size of your kitchen because you do not want an extremely big one that takes up a lot of space. I prefer the ones that I could keep on my countertop as I work.

Airtight lid

The most important part about your bins should be that it has an airtight lid. This keeps the composting materials and the odor within the bin. If you have children and pets in the home and they accidentally dash it, the airtight lid would keep it from spillage.

Filters

The lid should be equipped with charcoal/ carbon filters. These filters are extremely beneficial because they control the odor within the bin. By doing so they also keep away fruit flies, which I think is a major bonus.

Holes on the lid

Choose a compost bin that has holes on the lid allowing the flow of oxygen within the composting materials. When oxygen was within the compost, keeps away the bacteria’s that are responsible for causing the bad odor.

Well, that’s all for now and I do hope that these few tips will help you to successfully store compost in your kitchen. All the best!
