LIQUID COMPOST

Liquid compost is an excellent food but you can give your plants. I remember back in the days when I discovered liquid compost, and ever since then I have been utilizing it on all my plants, vegetables, sweet corn, container plants, and young seedlings. Trust me they all benefit bigtime especially mid-season, as it gives them an excellent boost.

If you are learning more about compost or even wanting to know more about how to make your very own liquid compost then, you have come to the right page. Today we’ll speak more about liquid compost and I’m sure you have a lot to take away.

For my liquid compost I use poultry manure that is produced locally as a starter. I have also made my liquid compost by the brewing process, by utilizing numerous organic granulated fertilizers from major brands. I must say that I have received excellent results.

If you’re a newcomer then the whole thought of making your own liquid compost can be very daunting. You may feel that the process is a bit complex and might get messy. However, let me tell you that once you know the right way of doing things, it will all fall into place. Making compost tea at home is a very straightforward process, but I must say that I have learned a lot through various trials. Poultry manual that is processed, urine and grass clippings, all three materials that were used in a certain study. What we learned is, they have extremely high salts that can burn the roots of the plant. Urine that is freshly collected can be mixed with water, making it excellent to increase the nitrogen levels. It can also be a continuous supply. When urine fertilizer is diluted properly it does not have any odor.

When you make your fertilizers at home by using grass clippings, organic fertilizers that are dry or poultry manual gives you a huge supply of nutrients. Grass clippings hold a high rate of nitrogen therefore, I add a couple of handfuls every time to make liquid fertilizers. Again, this will depend upon the quantity of fertilizer you’re making. Once the liquid is extracted, the residue can be recycled with the compostable materials.

It is difficult to go wrong with a liquid compost, if you follow the procedures properly however; there are certain things that you could go wrong with, especially if you go ahead and utilize a very strong solution. Things could also go south, if you allow the liquid compost to ferment for a long time. You must also be careful while utilizing it because splashing it on the leaves of your plants instead of applying it to the soil could have serious consequences. I always prefer to utilize a weak solution because they tend to carry plenty of soluble salts and if not diluted properly, could damage the roots and leave your leaves to rip brown edges.

When you’re brewing your liquid compost, you will notice a foul odor after 2-3 days. If it’s been over four days the smell would be unbearable, at this point you get rid of the liquid and make a new batch. Always remember that homemade liquid compost is extremely active and you should avoid storing them for longer periods. I always recommend making them in small batches.

So, that’s all guys. I do hope these couple of tips will give you more insight into liquid compost. Thanks, and take care!
