There are plenty of advertisements on the various compost tumblers that are available in the market. Some of these tumblers can be rolled on the ground, while others rotate. I have even come across a few tumblers that played on an axle, and some had a handle that would help you to turn the waste. All these bins have a major focus on giving you ready compose in a shorter period of time, along with the bins being extremely convenient and attractive. The question remains should you consider a Tumbler bin?
A recent study showed that, when compost that is turned frequently gives you ready compost sooner. So, there was an experiment that was conducted where four tumblers were filled with compostable materials and were turned thrice a week. Alongside a compost heap was also set up with a similar volume and it was turned once in a week, it was mixed by a spade or garden folk. At the end of the experiment, it was surprising that the heap produced ready compost in 10 weeks while the tumblers took one month extra to make usable compost.
The main learning from here is that a good tumbler will make the composable experience more convenient. It is easy to see to work however, if you wish to get your compost faster and you’re ready to put in the work that is required, then the traditional heaps seemed to be working better. They are also cheaper giving you enough exercise.
