The compost layer may be thickened to around six inches and can be used for planting.
- Sun heating: You can use solar heat to bake that area of garden soil and get rid of the unwanted grass. Trim the grass on your garden space short, water that area thoroughly. Take a clear plastic sheet and cover that area point to point. The sun’s heat will reflect below the plastic creating around 130 to 140 degrees F. Such a temperature is sufficient enough to kill all living things below.
Within few days the ground will be clear of everything however such a heat will also kill the essential bacteria of the soil hence a decent amount of organic matter like compost, foilage etc should be added to that area and planted upon.
- Removing manually: You can opt to remove the unwanted grass manually however it requires lot of efforts and hardwork. This is the most effective way to get rid of the grass and unwanted plants. The area determined must be well watered much before starting to remove. This will loosen the grass, then using an appropriate tool like a spade or a cutter the grass can be uprooted easily. The residue can be composted and used in the same garden. While using the compost of this residue it should be made sure that no seeds are surviving therein else your garden bed will again be full of the unwanted grass.
Treating your soil

Erecting proper fences and choosing plants resistant to pests or animals proves beneficial. Gardeners may also prefer using pesticides if things get ugly. Use of natural pesticides may delay the results but it will surely help in keeping the ecosystem healthy and blooming.
